Frequently Asked Questions & Answers

Requirement

1. How many members of staff need to be CORAC qualified?
Qualification is a licensing requirement and so each office must obtain a minimum of 2 rail team members, or 20% of the office (selling rail) whichever the greater, holding the CORAC qualification.

2. Which exams do I need to take?
To gain the CORAC qualification you will need to pass 3 exams; the National Rail exam and 2 Train Operating Company (TOC) exams. There are currently 7 TOC exams to choose from.

3. Which exams do I need to take if I hold the QSC qualification?
If you have previously held the old QSC qualification and are yet to take the CORAC exam then you need to register for just two of the five TOC exams. You will not be required to take the National Rail exam. Please note that during the registration process you will be asked to provide your QSC number so please have this to hand before registering.

If you have previously passed the CORAC exam and are now taking the renewal exam then your QSC number is not required as you will be asked to register for two TOC exams regardless of any previous QSC qualification being held.


Registration

1. How do I register for the CORAC exams?
To register for the exams, first of all log on to the website using your username and password. Having logged in to the website, go to the Online Exams section and select ‘Register for Exams’ and then follow the on screen instructions. To see the full registration process please click here.

2. How do I pay for the CORAC exams?
All payments for the CORAC exams are made online by credit or debit card during the registration process. Please note; Amex not accepted.

3. How much do the CORAC exams cost?
The cost for each individual exam is £33.00 plus VAT, therefore for candidates taking all 3 exams the cost will be £99.00 plus VAT. Current QSC holders will benefit by only needing to sit the 2 TOC exams and therefore the cost to those candidates will be £66.00 plus VAT.

Candidates taking the Renewal exam will pay £16.50 plus VAT for each of the two exams required, total cost £33.00 plus VAT.

4. How will I be notified of my password to take the exam?
Your password will be sent to you by email after you have provided your credit/debit card details during the registration process. The supervisor password will also be sent (to your supervisor/team leader) at the same time.

5. How long do I have to take my exams after registering?
All candidates have up to three months to take their exams from the registration date.

6. What happens if I do not take the exam within the 3 month time limit?
If you have not taken the exam within the 3 month time limit then please contact the RDG Travel Agents Team at lee.grainger@raildeliverygroup.com

7. What should I do if I cannot remember my username to log into the Travel Agents Online website?
If you cannot remember your username for the website then please email the RDG Travel Agents Team at lee.grainger@raildeliverygroup.com quoting your name and Rail Licence Code.

8. What should I do if I cannot remember my password to log into the Travel Agents Online website?
If you cannot remember your password then please request a new one from the website by confirming your email address.

 

Exam Process

1. How do I access the Study Guide for each exam?
To access the relevant study guide please log into the website and go to the Online Exams section and then click on ‘Take Exams’ you will be asked for your candidate password. Type in the password, click on ‘Submit’ and you will then see your list of exams. Now click on ‘Download’ and you will see the study guide appear on screen for you to save to your pc (or print).You can then review the study guide before taking the exam, remember you have 3 months from the time of registration to taking the exam.

2. How long do I need to take the exams?
The National Rail Exam is a one hour timed exam, consisting of 40 randomly drawn multiple choice questions. Each TOC exam is a 30 minute timed exam consisting of 20 randomly drawn multiple choice questions.

3. What is the pass mark for each exam?
In order to successfully gain the qualification, candidates must achieve a mark of at least 85% in all exams.

4. What action do I need to take if I fail an exam?
If you fail an exam then you will need to register for that particular exam again and pay the usual fee.

5. How do I access my CORAC certificate?
To download or print your current CORAC certificate log into the Travel Agents Online website. Then go to the Online Exams section and then select the ‘Download Certificate’ tab and you will see your certificate in pdf format. Please note that if your qualification has expired you will not be able to gain access to the certificate and will need to contact the RDG Travel Agents Team at lee.grainger@raildeliverygroup.com to request a copy.

 

Railcard Offer

1. How do I apply for my complimentary railcard?
After successfully completing the exam you will be asked to complete a CORAC feedback questionnaire. At the end of the survey you will be asked which railcard you require and after confirming this you will then receive a unique code for you to use on the railcard website when applying for your free railcard. The railcard will then be sent out to you.

2. How long is my railcard valid for?
Each individual railcard issued is valid for one year. After completing your application online you will be sent your railcard and on expiry, provided you are still employed as a travel agent selling rail, you can then apply for a railcard for the second year in line with your period of qualification. (CORAC qualification is valid for 2 years)

3. What can I do if my railcard is lost or stolen?
If you have applied  for your railcard online, using the unique code provided, then you can apply for a replacement at a cost of £10.

4. Which railcard can I apply for?
Candidates that have successfully gained the CORAC qualification can apply for either a 16-25, Friends & Family, Senior or Two Together Railcard.

5. Can I apply for a 16-25 Railcard if aged over 25?
As a special concession to CORAC holders, the 16-25 Railcard is available to all travel agents aged over 25. All other usual terms and conditions for the 16-25 Railcard, Family & Friends Railcard, Senior Railcard and Two Together Railcard apply.

 

Renewal Exams

1. Which exams do I need to take?
To gain the CORAC Renewal qualification you will need to pass 2 Train Operating Company (TOC) exams. There are currently 7 TOC exams to choose from.

2. How do I register to take the CORAC Renewal exams?
To register for the renewal exams, first of all log on to the website using your username and password. Please ensure that you use the same username when logging into the Travel Agent Online website as previously used. Having logged into the website then go to the Online Exams section and select ‘Register for CORAC Renewal Exams’ and then follow the on screen instructions.To see the full renewal registration process please click here.

3. Which username should I use when taking the CORAC Renewal exams?
You should always use the same username when logging into the website (regardless if you are taking exams or not). If you do not log in with the username used when passing the previous exam, the website will not recognise previous exam history and you will be unable to register for the renewal process. If you have forgotten your username then always send a request to the RDG Travel Agents Team at lee.grainger@raildeliverygroup.com

4. How much do the CORAC Renewal exams cost?
