Virgin Trains - Engineering works between Crewe & Chester

Virgin Trains - Engineering works between Crewe & Chester - Week commencing Monday 12 May

Network Rail will be carrying out major improvement work to the track drainage in Christleton Tunnel which is between Chester and Crewe, this area has been affected heavily for some time now causing delays due to flooding in this area and these works will combat this issue.

While these engineering works are taking place no trains will be able to run between Crewe and Chester on this stretch of the track each weekday from Monday to Friday, these works will commencing from 00:30 on Monday 12th to 02:30 on Saturday 17th May between Crewe and Chester.

Virgin Trains
Most of our trains will run but will be diverted via Middlewich and Sandbach. There will also be some amendments to their calling patterns. Northbound trains will leave Euston as booked, arriving Crewe at the normal time. At Crewe the train is diverted and will run later from Chester. Southbound trains will leave earlier; will be diverted between Chester and Crewe, leaving Crewe at their normal times.

The diversionary route means that trains will take about an hour longer than normal.

As an example, the 11:10 from Euston to Chester normally arrives at 13:13. During the engineering works it will arrive at 14:11. Similarly the 04:48 from Holyhead will arrive in Euston at 08:34. Whilst the engineering works are taking place it will still arrive at 08:34 but will now leave Holyhead about an hour earlier at 03:44.

The following alterations will also apply:
• The 07:10 Euston to Chester will not run Monday to Friday.
• The 20:10 Euston to Chester will terminate at Crewe. A rail replacement coach will run from Crewe to Chester at 22:00.
• The 07:00 from Wrexham to Chester and the 20:22 from Wrexham to Chester will not run.
• The 05:30 from Birmingham New St to Holyhead will leave at 05:30 but is diverted via Warrington Bank Quay, running later from Chester and will terminate at Llandudno Junction.
• The 08:10 Euston to Chester is extended to Holyhead.
• The 09:10 Euston to Holyhead terminates at Chester.
• The 16:10 Euston to Bangor terminates at Chester.
